Goverment defines UK Zero-Carbon Home.

by 2016 all new homes within the UK will have to be zero carbon and the Goverment are looking to set the zero carbon standard for public sector buildings in 2018. and commercial premises in 2019. The standard that new homes will have to reach, will be based on the amount of energy needed to heat and cool each square meter. They have been set as follows;

A semi- or detached home will be 46 kWh/m2 per year.
All other homes will be 39 kWh/m2.

Insulation will be required to double from current Building Regulation levels in walls and loft insulation will need to increase by 125mm.
